Biography
Billy Gigurtsis is an interdisciplinary choreographer and performer based in London, England. With a background in cybersecurity and a body shaped by severe scoliosis, Billy brings a unique perspective to the world of contemporary performance. His practice, which began with poetry and has evolved to encompass durational performance, contemporary dance, and interdisciplinary choreography. It is deeply informed by theory, especially systems theory, complex systems science, and phenomenology. 

Billy's work explores the intersections of movement, technology, and lived experience, often incorporating elements from diverse fields such as architecture, visual art, and computational algorithms. He is particularly interested in how different disciplines arrange elements in time and space, and how these principles can be applied to the practice of interdisciplinary choreography.

A graduate of the NEXT Choreography course at Siobhan Davies Studios, Billy has shown work at venues around the world including Riposte, Siobhan Davies Studios, Västerås Konserthus, and Woolwich Works.  He has extensive dance training from venues such as The Place and Danceworks, particularly in Tanztheater and Butoh, and has attended numerous dance workshops.  A full CV is available on request.

His piece City Life, an 89-minute durational, looping duet, received high praise from Siobhan Davies herself. Billy has also collaborated with ex-Candoco Artistic Director Charlotte Darbyshire and performed with ShareMusic Sweden to an 800 person theatre with a full orchestra.

In addition to his performance work, Billy is a published writer, with an article in Psyche magazine exploring the experience of dancing with deformity and its relation to Tanztheater and existentialism.
